Description The Ragdoll is a semi-longhaired pointed cat with a long and substanital body, head is a broad, modified wedge with rounded contours ending with a rounded, developed chin. The ears are wide at the base, round at the tip. The wide set oval eyes must be blue. Legs are medium length, on large round tufted feet. The Ragdoll has a broad chest, with no fat except on the abdomen. History The history of the Ragdoll is very unclear. There are many stories of where the Ragdoll orginated. Below is a brief story of each: - In 1960, Ann Baker of California rescued a cat that had been hit by a car, and called her Josephine. Josephine received head injuries that changed her personality and made her resistant to pain - she suddenly became laid back and "floppy" this trait was passed onto her kittens. Fact or fiction? Most geneticists would say was impossible.
- Ann Baker bred Josephine to a seal point Birman. One of the male offspring was then bred to a Burmese. Some people believe this to be the foundation of the Ragdoll.
- Josephine had five or six kittens; two males (Blackie & Warbucks) were loaned to Ann Baker to be used in her breeding program. These male kittens had different sires.
- Ragdolls were supposedly descended from three cats; Josephine, Blackie and Raggedy Ann Daddy Warbucks.
Personality The Ragdoll is named for its tendency to flop when picked up. Ragdolls are quiet docile, calm cats. They tend to show little interest in the outdoors, so they are the perfect indoor cat. They are friendly, affectionate and truly love human company. Colours & Patterns Ragdolls come in all pointed colours: seal, chocolate, lilac, blue, red & cream following divisions: Solid point, lynx (tabby) point, tortie point, all colours with bi-colour point divisions (mitted & bi-colour patterns)
